Additional information regarding Learning Modules to prepare for Child Life Internships
The Association of Child Life Professionals rolled out a new Pre-Internship Learning Module set. The learning modules are a comprehensive set of resources designed to help students prepare for successful internships and careers within the child life field. Created by an ACLP Practicum Task Force from 2018-2020 and revised by the ACLP Pre-Internship Work Group in 2022 after a Think-Tank, these modules have been updated with a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens to ensure that all students access to the same opportunities and resources. The ACLP designed the modules with the recognition that supportive environments must respect variations in culture, age, gender, race, ethnicity, physical ability, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, religious affiliation, veteran status, and socioeconomic status. Learners and supervisors are encouraged to review ACLP’s Inclusivity goals and consider incorporating these goals throughout the pre-internship experience. Additionally, the modules have been aligned with the newly released Internship Readiness Common Application and Internship Readiness Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs).

It is because of the updated student learning modules that while as the Student Coordinator, I have quickly recognized the need to continuously utilize the PSDA cycle to ensure I am connecting with other child life student coordinators, researching updates the Association of Child Life Professionals continuously provides, communicating with other child life staff at Denver Health to ensure quality and efficiency with changes, and overall ensuring the best pre-internship experience that will prepare students for a future child life intern and professional.
